Casa Verri – Location

Casa Verri, Via Verri 54, Citta della Pieve, PG Italy.

Citta della Pieve is an historic hilltop town in the Italian province of Umbria, just on the Umbrian/Tuscan border. It is perfectly situated to be a base to discover the delightful nearby towns of Orvietto, Sienna, Assisi, Perugia, Montepulciano and many more. It is large enough to have many lovely restaurants, bars and speciality shops, 2 supermarkets and several small hotels, but also small enough to allow you to feel like a local, as it is a working town that the throngs of tourists and day trippers have not yet discovered.

This apartment is located within the ancient medieval walls of the town which make it perfect for those who wish to simply wander down the street to sit in a café and enjoy the local ambience. All amenities are within walking distance, so it is possible to spend time here without a car just enjoying the history, peaceful environment and atmosphere. Taxis can be used to reach Chisui (about €15-€20 fare) which then gives you access to Florence, Rome (about 1.5hrs by fastest train) and all the gorgeous towns for which Tuscany and Umbria are reknown.

Situated about 10kms off the A1 motorway which connects Rome and Florence, Citta della Pieve is easily accessible by car, train and bus. The main train stop to access Citta della Pieve is CHISUI, which is situated half way between Rome and Florence, and from here, Citta della Pieve is about 15-20minutes drive up the hill. You can also get a bus from other Tuscan towns which stops outside the train station.

If you are arriving from a long journey into Rome, you may not want to hire a car from there, so it is easy to take a train to Chiusi and then hire your car here. Most car hire companies are located in Chiusi although do check their exact location in relation to the train station, as you may need to get a short taxi ride if you have luggage. There is a local car hire company conveniently located directly across the road from the train station - which you can book directly with them.

FROM ROME – take the main A1 MOTORWAY towards Florence and exit at the FABRO exit. Once you have paid the motorway toll, turn left at the next intersection (there is a sign for Citta della Pieve). About 500mtrs further on, turn left again at a sign that reads “CHIUSI”. This is a small local road and you will travel along this for about 8kms, then turn right at a sign that reads “Citta della Pieve”. This will bring you into the town from around the old medieval wall that surrounds the town.

FROM FLORENCE – take the A1 Motorway towards ROME and exit at the CHISUI exit. Once you have paid the motorway toll, turn immediate right and follow the signs to Citta della Pieve. Again you will come to the old medieval wall that surrounds the town.

Take a train to Chisui which is on the main train line between Rome & Florence. Be sure you do not take the very fast TGV train, as this is a non stop service between Florence and Rome. Depending which train you take (that is, how many stops it takes), the journey from either Rome or Florence will take approximately 1.5 – 2hrs. When you exit the station, there are taxis directly out the front and one of these will take you to Citta della Pieve (about €20 fare). Alternatively you can hire a car from here

The nearest airport is in PERUGIA, about 47 kilometers east of Chiusi. The airports of FLORENCE, ROME and PISA (Ryanair) are also within easy driving distance. (approx 2hrs drive)
